Hilchos Lashon Hara, Opening – positive commands (4)
If the other person loses his income because of this lashon hara - for example, one spread around that he is dishonest or not good at his work - he breaks the positive commandment (Vayikra 25:35), "A stranger and a resident, and he shall live with you," and afterwards it is written (Vayikra 25:36), "Your brother shall live with you."
This commandment tells us to help Jews earn a living so they will not need charity. All the more so, one must not cause someone to lose his income.
